- Our story
Estados was founded by Anglo-South American brother and sister team Hugo Lesser and Marisa Orchard in 2010.
We've been surrounded by beautiful Argentine leather goods all our lives. Our parents traveled to Argentina regularly for 30 years, inevitably returning laden with wallets, purses, handbags and belts. The quality of the leather, they said, surpassed anything available in Europe.
Our grandfather meanwhile was one of the thousands of British engineers, entrepreneurs and financiers who went to Argentina in the late 19th and early 20th centuries to help establish infrastructure. He was a railway engineer, and he designed the tunnels that connected Argentina and Chile across the high Andes. His leather chaps, his riding boots, and the holster he later took with him to the front in the Great War were so well made, of such wonderful leather, that they remain in excellent condition today, over a century later.
Estados' is short for 'Estados Animicos', which means 'states of mind', 'moods' or 'soul states', in Spanish. This reflects our design principle of using and combining different coloured leather.
We personally design all of our leather goods and oversee their manufacture to ensure the uncompromising quality that is a hallmark of our brand.

Why buy from us?
Our leather is better.
Argentine leather is incredibly soft and supple thanks to the unique climate and geography of the Pampas (the plains around Buenos Aires) which together create the perfect environment for cattle. Abundant, lush pasture, plentiful water sources, and a year-round mild climate all contribute to the extraordinary health of the hides.
Hides in Argentina are graded on a scale of 1-3, depending on how soft or how blemished they are. We exclusively use Grade 1, full-grain, calf hides.
Our leather goods are manufactured by a fourth-generation leather craftsman in a small workshop in the foothills of the Andes in north-west Argentina. Originally from Buenos Aires, he established his own workshop in 2010 with the support of the Fundacion Impulsar, the Argentine subsidiary of the Prince's Trust.
We oversee our manufacturing personally, and we are confident enough to offer a 10 year manufacturing guarantee.
Our original British designs make a statement thanks to both our innovative products and colour combinations. We must be doing something right, as we are seeing our longer-established competitors copying our designs.
